Actors Carice van Houten and Benedict Cumberbatch at the Grey Goose vodka party for Michael Sugar at Soho House Toronto on September 5, 2013 in Toronto, Canada.Stefanie Keenan

They call themselves "Cumberbitches," the superfans of Benedict Cumberbatch who delivered the first screams of the festival last night outside Roy Thomson Hall at the opening-night premiere of The Fifth Estate.

After several hours of being yelled at, lusted over and praised for his performance as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, Cumberbatch found escape from his Cumberbitches at Grey Goose Soho House Toronto, where I saw him drop a few dance moves with co-star Alicia Vikander. Cumberbatch's grooving was shortlived and more for jokes – tease! – but he did seem to be restrained by his well-cut tuxedo.

In a different wardrobe, he may very well have been able to challenge Michael Fassbender, dressed much more casually in a sweater and jeans, who was, at one point, surrounded by six women by the bar, grinding down to R. Kelly's Ignition (Remix). Fassbender's signature move is a fist-pump to the beat. Under different circumstances he could have totally been a frat boy … with a much sexier accent. When he wasn't ruling the dance floor, Fassbender spent a lot of time talking to Colin Hanks, son of Tom. The two exchanged contact info and a few bromantic hugs. Future BFF alert?

Also spotted at Soho House: Dan Stevens, a.k.a. the recently deceased Matthew Crawley of Downton Abbey. Stevens dropped 30 pounds earlier this year for an upcoming role. He now looks like a doppelganger for Westley (played by Cary Elwes) in The Princess Bride – after he became the Pirate Roberts.

Over at the Shangri-La Hotel, the always gracious and humble Hugh Jackman delighted fans and staff, happily posing for photos and signing autographs at the junket for his film Prisoners , directed by Quebec's Denis Villeneuve. Hollywood truth: Hugh Jackman is the best. This was confirmed by his Prisoners co-star Jake Gyllenhaal who, during his interview with etalk, affectionately feigned exasperation over the fact that Jackman never, ever seems to have a bad day.

Gyllenhaal has two films in the festival, and both of them with Denis Villeneuve. On Sunday they'll celebrate the world premiere of Enemy at the Hugo Boss afterparty at The Chase restaurant. That's just one stop on the TIFF first-weekend party circuit, starting tonight at the Park Hyatt Sky Yard, hosted by Moet & Chandon, where Kevin Klein, Susan Sarandon and Dakota Fanning will be toasting their film The Last of Robin Hood. Later on over at Live at the Hive sponsored by SodaStream, Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth are the main attractions at The Railway Man party. Live at the Hive is the site of the most anticipated event of the weekend on Sunday as SodaStream presents the Worldview Party and a guest list that includes Mila Kunis, Marion Cotillard, Zoe Saldana, Reese Witherspoon and Nicolas Cage.

If you don't have an invitation to any of the above, you may want to hit up the Nespresso Charge Café at Brassaii Restaurant & Lounge. It's open to the public and word is, many celebrities will be passing by through the weekend.
