"I'm starting with the man in the mirror," Michael Jackson sang," I'm asking him to change his ways." The 1987 album Bad, the biggest-shipping LP of all time, was all about shifting the weird pop king's image – to make him sexier, blacker and, yes, badder. With archival footage and talking heads (such as Kanye West, Martin Scorsese and former duet singer Sheryl Crow), Spike Lee vividly documents the making of the stadium-sized album and its ground-breaking videos. It's an exhilarating (if revisionist) ride, bypassing Jackson's bizarre personal behavior as it gets, with absolutely dead-on aim, to the man's jaw-dropping talent.
