Doctor Robert Ledgard (Antonio Banderas) and Vera (Elena Anaya) Pedro Almodovar's latest film - The Skin I Live In (La Piel Que Habito)
This year's Vancouver International Film Festival will open with Pedro Almodovar's The Skin I Live In. The film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, stars Antonio Banderas as an obsessive plastic surgeon who creates a synthetic skin that can withstand damage.
The Quebec film Starbuck, directed by Ken Scott and starring Patrick Huard, will be screened at VIFF's anniversary gala.
VIFF officials announced earlier this week that Sarah Polley's new film, Take This Waltz, will open the Canadian Images program, with a gala on the festival's second night; and that this year's Cannes Grand Prix co-winner, The Kid with a Bike, by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, will close the festival.
VIFF runs from September 29 until October 14. This year's festival will screen more than 375 films (including more than 235 features), more than 80 of which are Canadian.
