Broken Embraces (2009)

Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar teams up again with Penelope Cruz, this time for a melodrama of sex, blindness, jealousy and anything else he could think of. Inspired by a film within the film where Carmen Machi plays a garrulous woman talking about her sexual adventures, Almodovar (using the pseudonym Mateo Blanco) also directed Machi in a short, ribald film called The Cannibalistic Councillor. It's here as a bonus, together with split-screen shots of Almodovar feeding line readings to Cruz and Machi.

The Princess and the Frog (2009)

In returning to hand-drawn animation for this musical set in 1920s New Orleans and the bayou, Disney recaptures some of the magic of The Little Mermaid and a few of its successors. There are echoes of Hercules (the sinuous villain) and The Emperor's New Groove (Inca ruler turned into a llama). A prince changed by voodoo into a frog asks a waitress to kiss him and turn him back; complications ensue. Randy Newman provides the songs. The set includes a Blu-ray disc, a standard DVD and a slew of extras.
