Jacquie McNish and co-author Jim Leech are the writers of The Third Rail: Confronting our Pension Failures.

Globe and Mail writer Jacquie McNish and co-author Jim Leech are among the five finalists for the 2013-14 Donner Prize, the annual award for the best public-policy book by Canadian authors.

Mr. Leech, former president and chief executive officer of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, and Ms. McNish, a senior writer with Report on Business, co-wrote The Third Rail: Confronting Our Pension Failures.

Their book examines Canada's crumbling pension system, and the threat it poses to the retirement of millions of Canadians.
