Keith Richards is becoming a children's book author.

The Rolling Stones guitarist, songwriter and memorial to rock-and-roll lifestyle has agreed with publisher Little, Brown Books for Young Readers to publish Gus & Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar.

Aimed for publication in September, the book will be illustrated by Mr. Richards's daughter, Theodora Richards, according to a news release issued Tuesday by the publishing house.

The book will revisit the musician's recollections of his maternal grandfather Theodore Augustus (Gus) Dupree, whom Mr. Richards credits with helping kindle his love for music. The publisher plans to include an audio CD with the hardcover version of the book.

Now 70, Mr. Richards is partway through another world tour with the Rolling Stones, who play Wednesday in Shanghai.
