Two weeks, two parties, two looks: actress Sarah Gadon out on the town again, this time in Rochas at the 16th Annual Butterfly Ball in the Four Seasons Hotel.Jenna Marie Wakani/The Globe and Mail

A Canadian actress will be playing a part in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Just which part though, we're not sure.

Sarah Gadon, 26, is known for her roles in Cosmopolis, Antiviral and A Dangerous Method.

Though it's been rumoured she would take over Shailene Woodley's place as love interest Mary Jane Watson, Gadon denied it on Twitter.

"To all those on twitter, I will not be playing MJ in Spider-Man. I have a role in the film, but it is not that one :)" she tweeted on Friday.

The announcement that Gadon would appear in the movie comes just after the news that Woodley's scenes as Mary Jane would be dropped.

Woodley told Entertainment Weekly she was "bummed," but that she "completely understands the need for holding off on introducing MJ until the next film."

Director Marc Webb said Mary Jane's character will be taken out of the second film in order to focus on the earlier romance between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.

But the Hollywood Reporter said it's likely the scenes already shot of Woodley as MJ will likely not be used, as the part will probably be recast.

Speculation is buzzing online. Some are wondering if Gadon will be MJ after all, but in the third movie.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for release in 2014, with the third coming out in 2016.
