A scene from Fire Song.

In a small Northern Ontario aboriginal community, Shane (Andrew Martin) struggles on multiple fronts: His sister has killed herself, he must decide between going to school in the city and caring for his family, and he is secretly gay. The first fruit of the aboriginal component of Telefilm Canada's Micro-Budget Production Program, Adam Garnet Jones's Fire Song lays a heavy weight of despair on its thin frame, and the pressure bears down most heavily on his non-professional cast.
