Americana's ugly underbelly is the gritty scene – both urban and otherwise – of a hybrid documentary from Danish filmmaker Jonas Poher Rasmussen. A burly but soft-spoken Louisianan leaves a trailer park to retrieve his stolen car that was found in Detroit, where a notebook in the glove compartment offers clues to the titular con man who not only took the vehicle but defrauded others, some of whom we meet. The grifter Bill connects the characters, but there is a sense of loss and sadness that unites them as well. A quirky film about journeys and missions, and what happens when the map comes to an end.
