The director of Super Size Me is now looking to get fat on the planet's biggest boy band.
Morgan Spurlock, the maker of feature-length documentaries that often star himself, has signed on to helm a 3-D doc on the British hormone-pop sensations One Direction. In a statement released Wednesday, the director was thrilled beyond banality.
"This is an incredible opportunity and an amazing moment in time for the band," said Spurlock, who once searched for the world's most dangerous bearded man (Where In The World Is Osama bin Laden?). "To capture this journey and share it with audiences around the world will be an epic undertaking that I am proud to be a part of."
Epic, indeed. This is the auteur who said of his Bin Laden movie, "I wanted to make a film about a subject that we all want to know the answer to." In that vein, the One Direction thriller, to be released on Aug. 30, 2013, is billed as "behind the scenes."
And, of course, with the band's Svengali-like Simon Cowell on board as co-producer, Spurlock will absolutely be free to find the truth on the sweet-singing, aerodynamically-coiffed likes of Niall, Zayn, Liam, Harry and Louis. A super-sized director who found cheeseburgers (but not bin Laden), he knows a meal ticket when he sees one.
