Teenage pop star Justin Bieber's grandparents were involved in a car crash near Stratford, Ont. on Tuesday.

The couple were driving on a back road, northeast of their hometown Stratford, when their SUV hit slushy ice and rolled into a ditch. Bieber's grandfather, Bruce Dale, apparently had broken ribs, while grandmother Diane Dale was unhurt.

Bieber's mother, Pattie Mallette, tweeted late Tuesday night about the accident.

"My parents got into a car accident today. They flipped into a ditch & totaled the car but thank God they are alive! My dad has broken ribs. Plz pray 4 him 4 quick healing! Count your blessings & forgive ur parents always. U never know what tomorrow holds!!!" she tweeted.

While Biebs, an avid Tweeter himself, did not take to the Twitterverse and comment, "#PrayForJustinsGrandparents" went viral within hours and became a trending Twitter hashtag.

According to Ontario Provincial Police in Perth County, Mr. Dale was driving on the slippery road around 1 p.m., rolled into a ditch, hit some shrubbery and ended up on its wheels before righting itself eventually.

"The SUV was totalled, but they were not seriously injured" said Constable Kees Wijnands, adding both were wearing seatbelts. "All things said, it was a fairly minor crash."

Mr. Dale was taken to Stratford General Hospital where he was treated and released on the same day, Constable Wijnands said.

Bieber was in Stratford to celebrate Christmas with his family.
