Jason Patric in a scene from "Keyhole"

Directed by Guy Maddin (Canada)

A story of marital breakdown and the fight for reconciliation takes on an archetypal, absurd and delirious surface in Guy Maddin's latest black-and-white dream movie. It starts out like Key Largo – gangsters and gagged hostages holed up together -- and then transforms into a haunted-house version of Ulysses's home-coming. That's Ulysses Pick (an excellent Jason Patric), a gangster boss, carrying a drowned (but somehow alive) girl over his shoulder as he arrives back at his ramshackle house There, a naked old man, or possible deity (played by Louis Negin, he's also the narrator), is chained to the bed of his daughter Hyacinth (Isabella Rossellini), who is also Ulysses's estranged wife.

Sept. 9, 5:30 p.m., Lightbox 1; Sept. 11, 12:30 p.m., AMC 3
