A recent survey by PRS for Music has revealed that R.E.M.'s 1993 single Everybody Hurts is the top song that makes men cry. Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton and Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah follow in second and third, respectively.
"A well-written tear-jerker is one that people can relate to and empathize with," Ellis Rich, PRS for Music's chairman said in a statement. "It is this lyrical connection that can reach deep down emotionally and move even the strongest of men."
Globe Music critic Brad Wheeler liked some of the choices, but has his own version of the list.
