Get Lucky

Daft Punk, featuring Pharrell Williams; streaming here.

"The present has no rhythm," Pharrell Williams sings on the verse to Get Lucky, though he is in some groove himself. "Your gift keeps on giving."

Get Lucky, the highly hyped lead single off Daft Punk's forthcoming album Random Access Memories, serves as a disco-ball reaction to pop music's current obsession with aggressive, slamming beats. Helping out the French duo are the fly, supple Williams and Nile Rodgers, whose guitar chords distinctively dance Chic-like.

It's a summer song and a light-boogaloo anthem to the cause of courting in the a.m., with a sweet falsetto hook and Daft Punk's vocoder shenanigans on the bridge.

The tune was released after midnight on Friday, the timing of which only enforced the rally call "We're up all night to get lucky."

Disco fun, then – staying alive, staying alive.
