By Sinead O'Connor, from the forthcoming I'm Not Bossy, I'm The Boss (Nettwerk)
When she's not picking fights with Miley Cyrus, the handful that is Sinead O'Connor deals in music. Her new single is Take Me to Church, but has nothing to do Christianity or matrimonial impulses (as heard on her 2012 song 4th and Vine).
Rather, the up-swooping rocking epiphany concerns O'Connor's abandonment of her past ("I've done so many bad things, it hurts"), the embrace of herself ("I'm the only one I should adore") and her switch from singing love tunes to "songs that mend your broken bones and don't leave you alone."
The veteran Irish singer's forthcoming album was originally set to be titled Vishnu Room, but she changed it after being inspired by the Ban Bossy campaign, dedicated to the encouragement of female leadership. In that vein, Take Me to Church sounds like it's coming from someone in charge of herself, if not a Cyrus.
