The Tragically Hip's final show of its Man Machine Poem tour in Kingston this weekend is not just the hottest ticket in town, but the country – and the Prime Minister will be among those in attendance. His director of communications confirms that Justin Trudeau will be at the show on Saturday.

The tour has attracted sell-out crowds and huge interest since the revelation that the Hip's frontman, Gord Downie, 52, has terminal brain cancer. Kingston, the band's hometown, is the most sought-after stop and is bound to be a charged, emotional night in a relatively intimate venue. Rogers K-Rock Centre (with an address of 1 The Tragically Hip Way) will hold 6,700 people.

When asked by reporters in June whether he would be attending a show on the Hip tour, Mr. Trudeau did not respond directly, but said he had seen many Tragically Hip concerts throughout his life and Mr. Downie is someone he respects. "His status as an extraordinary Canadian, creative force and icon is not to be understated, but mostly he's just really a great guy."

The Hip's tour, which launched in Victoria on July 22, has sold out everywhere – and drawn attention to the problem of online ticket bots used by scalpers. The penultimate show of the tour will be in Ottawa on Thursday night.

Saturday's highly anticipated show will be broadcast live on CBC, with public viewing parties being held in venues across the country and beyond.
