The Art Gallery of Ontario hopes on Friday to be able to restore 40 paintings by the late Jack Chambers to the walls of a second-floor exhibition space after excessive humidity in the room forced the Toronto institution to remove the pictures on Tuesday.
Dehumidifiers were installed that night after Toronto received a record one-day downpour of rain, and the exhibition, Jack Chambers: Light, Spirit, Time, Place and Life, closed to the public. If there is no excessive rainfall or snow in the meantime, the show, which began Nov. 26, should re-open Saturday. A gallery spokeswoman said Thursday no leaks have been reported in the Signe Eaton Gallery and none of the Chambers paintings experienced any damage.
