Stacey McGunnigle will star in Ellen More or Less.

You can't say you weren't warned. In a Globe review of a Second City comedy show last summer in Toronto, the charisma of the writer-actress Stacey McGunnigle was singled out.

Her gifts were so clearly evident, it was suggested, that those who wished to catch her locally should do so quickly, because she was "headed to bigger things and may not be around here much longer."

That has now come to pass: McGunnigle, a captivating comedic performer and the auburn-haired pride of Alliston, Ont., is off to Hollywood. She has been cast in the title role of the NBC pilot Ellen More or Less, a single-camera comedy involving a formerly overweight woman who, having dropped 100 pounds, "begins reinventing herself in life and love," according to Deadline Hollywood.

McGunnigle hasn't had much in the way of screen experience, but NBC talent appraisers were reportedly wowed by her screen test.
