Quaid won't open for Sheen in Vancouver

Charlie Sheen, left, and Randy Quaid.

Charlie Sheen's management has turned down a proposal to have Randy Quaid open for Sheen in Vancouver.

"We're not going to be have any opening acts on the Charlie Sheen engagement," Larry Solters said from Boston, the Tuesday stop on Sheen's Violent Torpedo of Truth / Defeat is Not an Option tour.

"The tour is proceeding wonderfully and there's no plans to have an opening act or have Randy participating."

Quaid's new record label had pitched the idea to tour promoter Live Nation late last week. The proposal involved Quaid performing his two new songs onstage at Rogers Arena in Vancouver May 2. They had also suggested Sheen could sing backup on Quaid's now infamous song Star Whackers.

"I think it'd be a hoot," Quaid said. "I love Charlie. I've done three movies with Charlie. I've known him for 25 years."

Sheen's Torpedo of Truth tour has been a rocky affair, with a disastrous opening night in Detroit and wildly up-and-down performances ever since.

He performs two shows in Toronto, beginning Thursday.

Quaid has been in Canada since October. Wanted on outstanding California warrants, he and his wife Evi Quaid claimed refugee status here. Evi Quaid, whose father was born in Canada, was granted Canadian citizenship and she is sponsoring her husband.
