Edmonton Opera has lost its CEO with the resignation of Sandra Gajic, effective immediately. A brief notice was issued by the company late Friday, announcing that "Sandra Gajic has decided to move on from the Edmonton Opera and resigned."

Reached in Edmonton, board member Craig Corbett said the resignation was "a personal decision." When asked if the company was taken off-guard by the resignation, Mr. Corbett declined to comment.

Director of Production Tim Yakimec takes over as interim business manager and the company will conduct a formal search in the near future, according to Mr. Corbett. "In the interim, we have some extremely capable folks at the Edmonton Opera that will cover in the interim."

Ms. Gajic had been with the company for two seasons. She resigns as the company is set to celebrate a milestone season in 2013-14, which kicks off in October with a production of Salome.

"It's the 50th anniversary of the opera," said Mr. Corbett, "and we're going to continue to put on excellent opera for Edmonton."
