TIFF Sheet: A daily guide to the festival's hottest events

Natalie Portman (R) and Mila Kunis in scene from Black Swan.

THE GALAS

One of the most highly anticipated films of the fest is Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan, a psychological thriller starring Natalie Portman. The gala on Monday (9:30 p.m., Roy Thomson Hall) for the visually stunning film about a ballerina's descent into madness is the hottest ticket in town.

But don't let the Swan take all the attention - Rabbit Hole is screening, too. Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart star in John Cameron Mitchell's film about a couple in mourning. Kidman's performance is already getting lots of buzz, and after a string of poorly received projects, we look forward to seeing her back in fine form on Monday (9 p.m., Elgin Theatre).

THE PARTY

Rubbing elbows with celebs is great and all, but let's face it - the TIFF parties are also about the food. After hours of press junkets, screenings and red carpets, there's nothing like a dessert buffet to keep the energy up: Moroco Chocolat (99 Yorkville Ave.) plays host to the Canada's Walk of Fame party Monday night. Jay Baruchel, Paul Haggis, Donald Sutherland and David Suzuki are expected to attend, and hopefully sip their sinfully delicious frozen chocolate martinis for us.

THE EVENT

Celebrate the film Girlfriend at Brant House (522 King St. West) Monday night with a charity event for Motionball, an organization that raises funds for the Special Olympics. Let the touching film (screening Monday, 7:15 p.m. at Scotiabank Theatre) about a young man with Down syndrome tug at your heartstrings - then loosen your purse strings for a worthy cause.
