As Global Affairs Writer, Patrick Martin’s primary focus is on the turbulent Middle East, to which he travels regularly. He has twice been posted to the region – from 1991-95 and from 2008-12. In between, he served as The Globe’s Foreign Editor and as Comment Editor.

Before joining The Globe and Mail in 1984, Patrick was co-host of the national CBC Radio program Sunday Morning and co-author of Contenders: The Tory Quest for Power.

He has a law degree from the University of Western Ontario.

Patrick’s first foray into the Middle East came in 1971, when, as a 20-year-old, he motorcycled across Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.
