Susan Sachs is a former Foreign Editor of The Globe and Mail. She was previously the Afghanistan correspondent for the newspaper, and covered the Middle East and European issues, based in Paris, France.
Prior to joining The Globe, she was a foreign correspondent for The New York Times based in Istanbul, Baghdad and Cairo, and bureau chief in Cairo and Moscow for Newsday. Ms. Sachs has also been a freelance contributor to numerous international publications, as well as a professor at the Graduate School of Journalism at the Institute for Political Studies (Sciences Po) in Paris, France, and at Bosphorus University in Istanbul, Turkey. She began her reporting career as a political reporter in Illinois, and went on to work as an investigative reporter for The Miami Herald. She was awarded the American Political Science Association congressional fellowship and the Knight-Bagehot fellowship in business journalism. Her work has won numerous awards, including the Overseas Press Club prize for reporting from the Middle East and the top prize from Investigative Reporters and Editors for reporting on drug trafficking. She holds a Bachelors degree in American Studies from the University of Michigan.
