Scotia Capital Inc. has nabbed four debt capital markets bankers from its rival BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc.
Bob Nguyen has been hired on as the new head of debt capital markets, according to people familiar with the matter. Previously, Mr. Nguyen was head of North American debt capital markets and capital restructuring at Bank of Montreal’s capital markets arm.
Mr. Nguyen takes over from Greg Greer, who left Bank of Nova Scotia last month, according to a person familiar with the matter who was granted anonymity by The Globe and Mail because the matter is not public.
Michal Cegielski, who was most recently head of Canadian corporate debt at BMO, joins as Scotiabank’s head of Canadian debt capital markets.
Patrick Breithaupt and Patrick Dabiet also join Scotiabank's debt capital markets team from BMO.
All four are currently on leave and are slated to start in May.
Scotiabank has seen a flurry of changes in its capital markets arm in recent months. Earlier this year, the bank named new co-heads of global investment banking – Dany Beauchemin and Adam Sinclair – following the departure of the previous leader, Charles Emond.
And last November, Jake Lawrence and James Neate became co-heads of the global banking and markets business, following the retirement of 35-year banking veteran Dieter Jentsch.
