The Globe and Mail news app for Android is now available to download from the Android Market.
This app has several features that readers have come to expect from a Globe and Mail mobile product.
Offline Reading
The app allows users to customize their offline reading experience to exactly the way they want it. Readers can select any of the major content sections offered in the app and all the articles from within those sections will be downloaded on your device.
Users may either choose to manually fetch the offline content or enable an automated setting that will download the content at 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. The automated content only works if the device is connected to a WiFi network to save 3G data usage.
Customization
Users can customize their home screen reading experience by adding or removing the content sections of their choice. The app also allows you to re-order the section in any way you wish. You can also chose the font size separately for headlines and article body for better reading experience.
These options could be found in the Settings screen.
Search
The app features a robust search functionality that lets users search though past Globe and Mail content. The search button can be found on the top right hand side.
Share Tools
Users can share an article through various options provided within the app. Just hit the menu button on your phone and click 'Share'. Note that users will need to install their favourite social media apps on their phone for them to show up as options in the share menu.
We hope you enjoy the app as much as we enjoyed making it for you. I also wanted to give a huge thank you to our beta group of users, who helped us tremendously during the development of this app. We read every single piece of feedback we got and that helped us prioritize better.
We are looking at adding more features to the app in the near future. If you would like to give any feedback, please feel free to contact us at mobile@globeandmail.com or leave a comment below.
