The Globe and Mail is a finalist in seven categories at the 2013 EPPY Awards, recognizing the best in journalism websites.

The categories include: best daily newspaper website; best mobile website; best homepage; best overall website design; and best business blog. All these nominations were in the division of websites with more than one million unique monthly visitors.

The Globe also received the nod for best news or event feature for The Summit Series, a multimedia package on the 1972 hockey match-up between Canada and the Soviet Union that reached mythological heights in the Canadian consciousness.

As well, The Globe is a finalist in the category of best use of photography. For Borderline: Chronicling a drug war from the deadly U.S.-Mexico frontier, documentary photojournalist Louie Palu spent nearly a year crisscrossing more than 3,000 kilometres of the border to tell the story of Mexico's drug wars, which claimed nearly 50,000 lives in six years, according to government figures.

The EPPY Awards, presented by the U.S.-based journal Editor and Publisher, recognizes the best media-affiliated websites across 30 categories. It is now in its 18th year.

Editor and Publisher staff, along with a panel of 78 judges, reviewed entries for three weeks before deciding on the finalists.

Winners will be announced on Oct. 30.

The Globe won four EPPYs in 2012: best newspaper-affiliated media website, best overall website design, best business blog (for Economy Lab) and best automotive site (for Globe Drive). Economy Lab and Globe Drive won the same awards in 2011.
