With a bearish trend predicted for new vehicle sales in Canada this year, automakers will be on the defensive to maintain, let alone grow, their share of the market. It is always easier and more cost-effective to retain an existing customer than to acquire a new one.
According to Think With Google, 41 per cent of car buyers had already decided whether or not to remain loyal to a brand upon embarking on their purchase journey. This is significant because if customers have a positive overall sales and service experience, they are more likely to be loyal.
After-sales experience, such as maintenance and service, has a major impact on a customer’s loyalty, but the initial sales experience was the most significant determining factor of the decision to return. As a result, the majority of automakers have rebate programs for existing customers that can usually be combined with regularly advertised incentives to promote brand loyalty.

Acura ILX

Featuring a complete redesign for the 2019 model year, the Acura ILX now sports the prominent diamond pentagon grille and redesigned Jewel Eye headlights featured on the exterior of all other Acura models. The 2019 ILX’s powertrain consists of a 2.4-litre i-VTEC engine, which outputs 201 horsepower and 180 lb.-ft. of torque, as well as an eight-speed transmission with steering-mounted paddle shifters. Interior highlights on the Premium trim include an eight-inch infotainment display, a premium seven-speaker sound system with SiriusXM capability, a multi-angle rear-view camera with guidelines, dual-zone climate control and leather-trimmed seats with heated front seats. All 2019 ILX trims come standard with active safety features including collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control.

When equipped with a T6 engine, the 2019 Volvo XC90 produces 316 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The R-Design trim’s interior features include a full graphical 12.3-inch instrument cluster with built-in navigation; a four-zone automatic climate control system; a perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters; a Clean Zone air-quality system that shuts the cabin’s air intakes if harmful substances are detected; and a panoramic moonroof. The 2019 XC90 R-Design trim also features front collision-mitigation support, forward-collision warning with a heads-up display, whiplash protection on the front seats, wiper-integrated windshield washer nozzles and steering responsive automatic LED headlights.

Hyundai will be replacing its popular Santa Fe XL three-row SUV with the Palisade for the 2020 model year. This all-new model will be the largest Hyundai vehicle to date and will feature several technology features, such as heads-up display, wireless charging capability and a large 10.25-inch infotainment display. In the meantime, car buyers can take advantage of attractive incentives on the outgoing Santa Fe XL.
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe XL is equipped with a 3.3-litre, V-6 engine with gasoline direct injection that produces 290 horsepower and 252 lb.-ft. of torque. The Luxury trim’s interior features a seven-inch infotainment display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, heated leather seats, a panoramic sunroof and a heated and leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. Exterior features on this trim include automatic LED projector headlights, mirror-integrated LED turn signals and windshield wiper deicing capability. The Luxury trim is also equipped with active safety technology, such as forward collision-avoidance assist, lane departure warning, blind spot collision warning and rear cross-traffic alert.

The 2019 Audi A4 is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers 248 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque, available with a seven-speed automatic S tronic transmission and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive technology. This sport sedan is capable of going from zero to 100 km/h in a mere six seconds and reaches a top speed of 209 km/h. Highlights on the Progressiv trim include an Audi Connect infotainment system with built-in navigation, tri-zone automatic climate control, a heated and leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel and engine start-stop functionality. Standard safety features on the Progressiv trim include LED exterior lighting and Audi pre sense, which engages the automatic belt tensioner and triggers anticipatory protection measures for the passengers upon detecting a high probability of collision.
