Toronto's Yorkdale Shopping Centre, one of Canada's busiest malls, has seen its share of parking lot spats, and has taken some high-tech steps to ease the situation.
The mall's website includes a live stream of the parking deck (yorkdale.com/visit/parking), and the Yorkdale mobile app has live updates of the number of spots available, plus direct access to the $15 valet-parking service for those who don't want to vie for prime spots.
Anthony Casalanguida, Yorkdale's general manager, says using these sorts of tools to plan your trip and avoiding the peak holiday shopping hours from 2 to 5 p.m., can help alleviate parking stress. The mall also uses electronic signs and a green-light system in the southwest lot to direct drivers to empty spots.
Better yet, for those who use a public transit family day pass and spend $50 at the mall, Yorkdale offers a $10 gift card.
