My Volkswagen Jetta locks the doors automatically as soon as I get out of the car. I have to unlock it to get the groceries or anything from the back seat.

It's annoying, and I don't always want to lock my car. Can I turn off the auto lock?

Ann

This is a huge issue in forums all over the Internet – and not one limited strictly to Volkswagen. I read numerous comments that sounded just like yours Ann, and discovered that there are many manufacturers that produce vehicles equipped with this "comfort feature" (their term, not mine) – although I'm not sure exactly who is being made comfortable in all this.

Ann, you can have this feature turned off at a VW dealer. It requires the connection of their proprietary diagnostic tool. I caution against the many do-it-yourself suggestions found on the forum sites as any incorrect procedure may create serious safety issues down the road.

Due to system integration found in the modern vehicle, unless you know what you're doing, the inexperienced can wreak havoc within the myriad electronic, on-board networks.

Ann, save yourself a lot of frustration and aggravation by taking your Jetta to the dealer and have the Auto Door Lock function de-activated properly.
