First sold in 1964, the Mustang has inspired devotion from day one.
Ford is building a limited-edition Mustang GT to honour the pony car’s 50th anniversary.
The company will only build 1,964 special cars, honouring the year the Mustang first went on sale.
There are special chrome highlights around the grille, windows and tail lights.
The 50 Year Limited Edition will come in one of the two colours of Ford’s logo: white or blue. Buyers can choose a manual or automatic transmission.
The Limited Edition will also be the only 2015 Mustang with a faux gas cap badge on the rear, where the original cap sat.
Limited Edition cars will be among the first built when 2015 Mustang production begins later this year.
This edition of the 2015 Mustang has a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The two-tone cashmere and black leather upholstery feature a “Mustang 50 Year” logo on the seat backs.
The special edition car will come in two colours: Wimbledon White, like the first Mustang ever sold, or Kona Blue. Both colours are exclusive to this edition.
Chrome bezels at the base of the taillights take design inspiration from the original 1962 concept that was the basis for the first 1964 production model.
This model is powered by a5.0-litre V8 engine delivering more than 420 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque.
Six-piston Brembo front brakes and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Special edition cars all come with high-performance Y-speed-rated Pirelli P-Zero summer tires, inspired by the tires on the original car.
This special edition will be available this fall.
