A classic Ferrari that sat covered in a Toronto parking garage sold for $770,000 US at the RM Sotherby’s auction Saturday during the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance in Florida. For 25 years this 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta by Scaglietti hid in plain sight -- on blocks, covered and tucked away in the corner of a condo garage in downtown Toronto. Patrick Sinn, 77, who owned the car for 44 years, pulled off the tarp in November and decided to sell the car. In 1971, Sinn had just finished skiing in France and was scheduled to board a flight from Geneva to Toronto. When the flight was delayed, he went to the Geneva International Motor Show, according to RM Auctions. That’s where he saw and fell in love with the Daytona. Instead of flying to Toronto, he cancelled his ticket, flew to Milan, rented a car, drove to the Ferrari headquarters and bought the Daytona for $18,000. Sinn picked up the Ferrari a couple months later and drove it around Europe for a while before shipping it to New York on the Queen Elizabeth II. Sinn drove the Ferrari until 1989 when his father passed away and he had to rush to Hong Kong to take over the family business. Because he left in a hurry, he just put the car on blocks, put a cover on it and hoped he’d return in a couple months. Sinn didn’t return for six years and drove his Mercedes-Benz 280 SL instead of taking the cover off the Ferrari. Ferrari made 1,284 Daytona coupes between 1968 and 1973, but a one-owner model is a rare find.
