As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, Ford will be displaying its 2015 Mustang convertible on the 86th-floor observatory of Empire State Building – replicating the same feat it did for the pony car's debut at the 1964 World's Fair in New York. Now, this is no easy task. Fifty years ago, a prototype Mustang was sliced into three sections and transported by elevator to the observatory. And that's exactly how the 2015 model will find its way up, too. "Like all good craftsmen, our team is measuring twice and cutting once to make sure we can get this Mustang up in the elevators," said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer in a press release. The Mustang will be on display April 16 to 17.
Hell hath no McFlurry like a woman scorned
A man's 1994 Cadillac Eldorado went up in flames last week because he refused to buy the woman he was with a McFlurry at a McDonald's in Jacksonville, Fla.
"She was saying she wanted this and wanted that, and she wanted either a McFlurry or an ice cream on top and he was not in for it. Then he was yelling at her saying he's not going to do it," witness Sabryna Mare told CBS affiliate WTEV 47. Mare said the angry woman grabbed the man's keys, went to his car, poured gasoline on it and set it ablaze. She then fled. Sans McFlurry.
Everything's big in Texas
Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth has unveiled the world's largest video screen, 66 metres wide by 29 metres high (1,917 square metres in all) of high-def glory dubbed "Big Hoss TV."
"This means you don't miss a thing," track president Eddie Gossage told The Associated Press. "To me, it's an ultimate fan amenity, and also to have the biggest one in the world." About 8,000 people showed up for its public unveiling, which included an airing of a new episode of Duck Dynasty. Duck Commander, the brand of duck calls featured on the redneck reality show, is the title sponsor of the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at the track.
TLX takes New York
Acura has confirmed that the production version of its TLX performance luxury sedan will make its world debut in mid-April at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. The TLX prototype was first unveiled in January at the Detroit auto show.
It's not easy winning 'green'
Sixteen vehicles are on the shortlist to be named the 2014 Canadian Green Car – and the winner will crowned April 25 at the Green Living Show in Toronto. Vehicles are divided into five categories – battery-electric or fuel cell, plug-in hybrid, conventional hybrid, efficient gasoline or diesel internal combustion, and efficient "family hauler" with at least three rows of seats. Category winners will be revealed in mid-April and a second round of judging will determine the overall winner. Last year's inaugural winner was the Ford Fusion hybrid.
