According to the Webby organization's notification to the honorees: "This is an unparalleled honour. As a Nominee, your work has been selected as one of the five best in the world in its category."
The nomination follows the consecutive Eppy (Editor and Publisher) awards won by GlobeDrive.com in 2011 and 2012 for Best Automotive Website with over 1,000,000 monthly page views, and cements the website's reputation as the premier destination for high-quality written and visual coverage of cars and car culture.
The other four nominees in the Webby awards for Car Sites/Car Culture are all from the United States: A website about the historic Vanderbilt Cup Races in the U.S.; the redesigned website of Road and Track magazine; the 'Driven' hub of lifestyle website Urbandaddy.com; and a web campaign for the Toyota Camry by Saatchi and Saatchi LA. The winner will be announced on April 30.
Five other entries by The Globe and Mail were given honourable mentions by the international judges. They were: The Breaking Caste video in the News and Politics category; the Chef Basics video in the How-To and DIY Video category; Strategy Lab in the Blog-Business category; The Immigrant Answer in the Social Media category; and Transforming the Ivory Tower in the News & Information category.
