2012 BMW 3-Series Touring
BMW will do whatever it takes to win the premium sales crown for 2012 in both the United States and Canada, a senior BMW executive told me this week at the Los Angeles auto show.
In Canada, BMW sales trail those of Mercedes-Benz by a mere 481 units (27,105 for Mercedes versus 26,624 for BMW). Thus, as the final month of the 2012 sales year approaches, the race is tight. Naturally, that means deals.
Take what BMW is offering on leftover 2012 3-Series wagons. The 328i Touring xDrive, the all-wheel wagon, is wearing a $5,000 factory discount on a $45,700 sticker price. Sharp hagglers will probably be able to squeeze out even more cash in the form of a dealer discount. Yes, BMW wants to win that sales crown.
Meanwhile in L.A., Toyota unwrapped the reinvented RAV4 small crossover wagon. It's loaded with upgrades and design changes and will go on sale early next year. To clear out remaining 2012 RAVs, Toyota Canada has been sweetening the pot and to great effect: RAV sales are up nearly 30 per cent on the year. Shoppers will find a $3,000 cash discount on remaining 2012 RAV, along with cut-rate finance and lease deals (see chart).
Ford Focus sales were on fire last month and one reason why is the discounting: as much as $3,500 in factory money on the table. A $2,750 rebate is contingent on your Ford dealer arranging a long-term loan with an financial institution other than Ford Credit and $750 Winter Safety Package can be had in cash if the buyer so chooses.
And then there's the sub-$14,000 Nissan Versa subcompact sedan. Versa sales were up 36.5 per cent last month and so you'd expect to find an offer or two. You'd be correct: a $1,000 rebate for cash buyers or 0.0 per cent financing available for up to 72 months.
