Sex sells.
Well, duh, there's an understatement. So it should come as absolutely no surprise that a survey released this week indicates that driving a good-looking car makes people feel more attractive.
The Canada-wide survey, commissioned by autotrader.ca, reveals that 36 per cent of the more than 1,500 respondents think a sexy car makes them feel more desirable. Among women, that figure jumps to almost 40 per cent, and it is just shy of 50 per cent for drivers under the age of 35.
"We discovered that people not only judge others on the type of car they drive, they also internalize their choices – cars appear to be a key part of how we identify ourselves personally," said Ian MacDonald, a spokesman for Trader Corporation, in a press release.
Wow. Really? I drive a Kia Rio. What does that say about me?
Other tidbits from the sex survey:
- 61 per cent of Canadians said they would walk away from a car deal if the vehicle wasn’t the right colour.
- 41 per cent said “people should drive cars that match their personality.” This number rises to 47 per cent among Canadians younger than 35.
- 71 per cent of Canadians said they were not in love with their current ride.
- 20 per cent said that people should drive cars that match their appearance. You mean like shoes?
In case you had your doubts about just how silly this survey could get, it then went a step further. Respondents were asked to "assign" sexy cars to Canadian celebrities:
- Actor Ryan Gosling is a macho Ford Mustang
- Singers Shania Twain and Michael Bublé are each a stylish BMW 3 Series
- Hockey great Wayne Gretzky is an active Subaru Forester
- Actress Pamela Anderson is a status-seeking Porsche 911
- Singer Alanis Morrissette is an environmentally-friendly Toyota Prius
