The best offers on pickup trucks

Over 360,000 pickup trucks were sold in Canada from January, 2017, through October, up 16 per cent over the same period last year. With total light vehicle sales approaching 1.8 million in that same period, pickups represent nearly one out of every five new vehicles sold.

Due to such growth in popularity, the segment is also experiencing intensifying competition and diversification.

Mercedes-Benz recently launched the X class luxury pickup in Europe, with releases in Africa, Australia and South America soon to follow; the Honda Ridgeline made a momentous comeback after a three-year hiatus with sales growing at over 140 per cent so far this year; and Jeep plans to return to the segment after more than 25 years with the Wrangler pickup slated for a 2019 model year release.

2018 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 SuperCrew 5-1/2' box

The Ford F-150 continues its streak as Canada's bestselling light vehicle since 2009 and bestselling truck for the past 50 years. Over 133,000 Ford F-series trucks were sold in Canada in the first ten months of the year, up 7.6 per cent year over year. The F-150 also received a facelift for the 2018 model year featuring a more prominent grille and revised headlight and bumper designs. The 2018 XLT trim features a 3.3-litre Ti-VCT V-6 engine that outputs 290 horsepower, 265 lb-ft of torque and a towing capacity of 13,200 pounds. Buyers can also opt for the available 10-speed automatic transmission and a 2.7-litre EcoBoost engine that delivers 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Other notable features on the XLT trim include a rear-view camera, SiriusXM radio capability, cruise control, MyKey driver setting customization system that can limit top speed and audio levels, a tire pressure monitoring system, curve control technology that slows down the vehicle when going too fast around a corner and an available remote ignition system.

2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 1LT Crew Cab Short Box 4WD

The Chevrolet Silverado and its fraternal twin the GMC Sierra have a combined Canadian sales total of 104,500 in the first ten months of the year – representing a year-over-year gain of over 28 per cent. The 2018 Silverado comes standard with a 4.3-litre EcoTec3 V-6 engine that achieves an output of 285 horsepower, 305 lb-ft of torque and a towing capacity of 9,600 pounds. Its interior features an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a rear-view camera, a six-speaker audio system with SiriusXM capability, a 4.2-inch driver information display in the instrument cluster and a tire pressure monitoring system. Other notable features include StabiliTrac technology which monitors the vehicle's steering input and actual response to sense any loss of traction and automatically makes adjustments to braking and engine power to help stabilize the vehicle.

The Ram 1500 is Canada's third-bestselling truck with sales of 86,482 in the first ten months of 2017 and is a three-time winner of the Canadian Truck King Challenge in 2014, 2016 and 2017. The 2018 SLT trim comes standard with a 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 that delivers 305 horsepower, 269 lb-ft of torque and a towing capacity of up to 7,210 pounds. With sales of 5,129 in 2017 so far, up over 150 per cent year-over-year, the Nissan Titan is the fastest-growing pickup truck nameplate. The 2018 Titan delivers 390 horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque through a 5.6-litre V-8 engine that is capable of towing up to 9,220 pounds.
