Our website gets a fresh polish today, as reorganized navigation reflects improvements to our content lineup.

The top of the home page eliminates the slider in order to present our most popular stories more effectively.

Scrolling down, you'll find Reviews (new, used, classic), Auto Shows (North America, Europe, Asia coverage), News, Culture (commuting, gadgets, opinion, tech) and Adventure.

The News section incorporates a new blog called Trans-Canada Highway which brings in regular contributions from a variety of writers including Drive veteran reviewer Jeremy Cato. Motorsports coverage of Formula One, NASCAR and IndyCar, plus automotive industry stories will be found in News.

Videos are displayed more prominently in the right rail. Videos posted this week include staff columnist Peter Cheney driving a Porsche 911 on the autobahn, a look at Google's self-driving car, and F1 driver Lewis Hamilton taking on Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in a simulator.

In the Drive department, we are continually building multimedia packages in response to reader reaction. In addition to the video, check out John Sopinski's graphic on the Kal Tire commercial tire retreading facility in Oshawa, Ont.

We are planning to host more Google Hangouts, too, as reader engagement is core to our mission. Recent illustrations:

Peter Cheney's story last week on the rationale for Canada's 100 km/h speed limit generated more than 300 comments, many generated by readers responding to other readers, and about 13,000 votes in an associated poll.

– Cheney chronicles his adventures on the road with a Friday pictorial blog, Spotted, and it is gaining momentum with each week as readers contribute photos and video;

– When writer Robert Collison reported recently on a device being promoted by private insurance companies to measure driving performance, purportedly as a way to mitigate the huge premiums levied on young drivers, readers responding in the comments field indicated, "bad idea."

Regarding content, our stories naturally assess the vehicles we operate. Also, with increasing frequency, we're reporting on a range of driving matters including the Canadian commute. Topics to date have included tow truck pricing on highways, distracted driving, tire speed ratings, the debatable need for winter tires.

Starting this week, many of our car reviews are being presented in a pair of new formats, labelled Road Test and Quick Spin. The redesign is part of our continuing efforts to present material in visually appealing, easily digestible ways.

To strengthen the breadth, quality, integrity and yes, the entertainment quotient of our journalism, we've added numerous writers to our stable and changed the scope of others. They include:

Jessica Leeder National Newspaper Award and Emmy winner, writing news stories, features, reviews.

Robert Collison Former V [for Vancouver] Magazine editor, news and features.

Mark Hacking Veteran auto journalist, reviews and industry trends.
