Flight simulator and training company CAE Inc. says its subsidiary has won a $10-million (U.S.) contract from the United States Air Force to upgrade two C-5 Galaxy weapon systems trainers, and that the contract could increase in value.

The agreement is part of an effort to ensure the systems fall in line with aircraft upgrades being completed in a separate program.

CAE said Tuesday that the upgrades would begin on a trainer at the Stewart Air National Guard Base near Newburgh, N.Y., and continue with another system at the Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

Further optional upgrades to C-5 weapon systems trainers and cockpit procedures trainers could raise the value to more than $50-million, CAE said.

"Following a highly competitive evaluation, we are pleased the U.S. Air Force recognized CAE's expertise and experience in selecting us to perform major upgrades to a range of C-5 training devices," said CAE's U.S. subsidiary president and general manager John Lenyo in a release.

"As the prime contractor, we are committed to delivering these upgrades on-schedule with minimal disruption to current training requirements.
