Canadian bank stocks are sliding this week as five of the Big Six report their quarterly earnings. But amid the volatility, there may be a silver lining for investors.

"Note that Canadian banks have held up better than their U.S. counterparts since financial market volatility picked up last summer," BMO Nesbitt Burns senior economist Robert Kavcic said in a recent note. "They've also significantly outperformed their European counterparts, which have fallen under the stress/uncertainty over negative interest rates."
