Customers head in and out of a Canadian Tire store location in Scarborough, Ont.

Canadian Tire Corp. says its second-quarter profit rose 15.6 per cent, helped by a recovery in its credit card business.

The big hardware and home goods retailer says quarterly profits were $119.9-million, up from $103.7-million at this time last year.

Operating revenue improved slightly, rising 3.8 per cent to $2.41-billion.

The company's financial services division posted a 30-per-cent rise in earnings before income taxes to $55-million.

However, retail sales at its Canadian Tire stores rose at a weaker pace, up 2.5 per cent to $2.86-billion.

The company's president and CEO says the company's retail performance showed growth across all of its key categories.
