American retail giant Target Corp. announced Thursday that Glentel Inc. has been chosen to handle mobile communications offerings at Target stores in Canada.

Glentel, Canada's largest multicarrier mobile phone retailer, will offer a choice of network carriers and an array of wireless devices to customers at Target locations set to open across Canada in 2013.

"We are proud to be selected by Target as the exclusive operator of its mobile communications products and services display fixtures at the majority of store locations across Canada," Glentel president and CEO Tom Skidmore said in a release.

Under the agreement, the retailer is licensing mobile communication sales and services within its stores to Glentel under the brand Target Mobile.

"Our goal is to bring the true Target brand shopping experience to Canada and this includes partnering with accomplished Canadian companies like Glentel to offer our guests the highest quality merchandise and exceptional service," said John Morioka, senior vice-president, merchandising, Target Canada.

Minneapolis-based Target plans to open 124 stores across Canada starting in March and April, 2013. Later this year, Target will announce additional store locations that will open in 2014 and beyond.

Vancouver-based Glentel currently operates more than 330 locations in Canada in retail malls, Costco Wholesale stores and business centres. It also has more than 210 retail locations in the United States.
