investor tip

Those of you who used the old globeinvestor.com site will be more at home today. That's because we've brought back a popular feature from that site. You can now enter several stocks in the search box and then see multiple quotes at once.

How does it work?

Just start typing the symbol or name of the first stock you want in the search box. Select the one you want from the suggestions. The stock you've selected is the one with the darker shading.

Then hit the comma key (,) or the semi-colon key (;) like you would to add names to an email in Outlook. If you use Facebook, where you can add more recipients to a message by hitting the tab key, you can do the same thing here: Start searching for the second stock by hitting the tab key. Then start typing the symbol or name of the second stock.

Go ahead and build as long a list of stocks as you want, hitting the separator after each stock. Then hit the return key to start the search.

It's very quick to build a list.

The results page is new, too. And it's a sneak peek of the layout for a new watchlist tool we've been developing. So, we're interested in what you think of the data you see. Is it enough at a glance, or is there something else you'd like to see?

There are two more improvements to mention that make it easier to search for related securities. Inter-listed versions of a stock are now shown in the search box suggestions. This makes it easier to find all of the versions of some familiar Canadian companies, like Lululemon or Research In Motion, which trade on a Canadian as well as an U.S. exchange. It'll still be quick to see which stock you want from the little flag. And you can now search for preferred shares by typing its symbol in the search box.
