Are you getting the most out of your money? If you're a new investor, you might not be sure. And even if you're the savviest investor, a check-up always helps to make sure your portfolio is in line with your goals.

Which is why The Globe and Mail offers Portfolio Makeover – a regular series where we take a reader's portfolio to two experts – financial advisers and specialists from around the country – for a tune-up. Here's how you can participate:

Let us know you're interested. Send us a confidential e-mail to portfoliomakeover@globeandmail.com. We keep your identity completely private; it won't be shared with anyone except for the reporter and editors handling the makeover story. But since it's just that – a story – we ask that you to come up with a pseudonym so we can put together a narrative.

Break down your investments and debts. Let us know how your investments are broken down. It helps if we know where you're putting your money (Stocks? Bonds? What industries?) and into what (An RRSP? RESP? TFSA?). Are you paying down a home? Carrying any student loans? This is the information we provide to our experts, using your pseudonym only, so they can suggest changes.

Tell us your story. Your financial story is just one part of the bigger picture. In the past few months alone, we've profiled a couple looking at expanding their farm, a 24-year-old who's already playing the markets, an oil and gas worker getting ready to retire and a 67-year-old with no savings who wants to live on his sailboat. Letting us know who you are – your work, your interests, how you've arrived at your financial situation – helps us paint a better picture of your story for the article.

Tell us your goals. How do you want your portfolio to work for you? Do you want to buy a new home, or maybe pay off your existing mortgage? Save up for a really fast car? When do you want to retire – and what kind of lifestyle do you want to live when you do? This helps our experts give advice tailored just for you, gearing your portfolio towards these goals.

We'd love to help you out – and, hey, free advice never hurt anyone. So send us an email at portfoliomakeover@globeandmail.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
