Energy stocks are under accumulation by insiders. Featured below are 14 companies that have experienced recent insider buying activity in the public market through their direct and indirect ownerships. Of the 14 stocks listed below, over half of the companies are from the energy sector.

Keep in mind, when looking at transaction activities by insiders, purchasing activity may reflect perceived value in a security. I tend to put great weight on insider transaction activities when I see multiple insiders buying a company's shares.

Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM-T)

Sean Boyd, the company's chief executive officer, purchased 5,000 shares at a price of $56.158 per share on Feb. 28. A few days prior, on Feb. 24, board member Jamie Sokalsky bought 4,000 shares at a price of $59.65 per share.

AltaGas Ltd. (ALA-T)

Board member David Mackie purchased 5,000 shares at a price of $30.98 per share on Feb. 27.

Bombardier Inc. (BBD.B-T)

Dan Brennan, the company's senior vice president of human resources, has purchased 220,000 shares in total in numerous transactions from Feb. 24 through March 3.

Canadian Real Estate Investment Trust (REF.UN-T)

On Feb. 23, Stephen Johnson, the REIT's chief executive officer, purchased 38,037 units; Rael Diamond, the president and chief operating officer, bought 13,027 units, and Mario Barrafato, the chief financial officer, accumulated 7,478 units. All three trades occurred at a price of $47.98 per unit.

Encana Corp. (ECA-T)

Doug Suttles, the president and chief executive officer, added 2,000 shares to his portfolio on Feb. 23. On the last day of February, Mike Williams, the vice president of corporate services, purchased 3,400 shares at a price of $14.67 per share.

Inter Pipeline Ltd. (IPL-T)

On Feb. 27, Spil Kousinioris, the vice president of corporate development, accumulated 7,050 shares at a price of $28.095 per share, and board member Margaret McKenzie bought 4,500 shares at a price of $28.153 per share. On Feb. 23, Bernard Perron, the vice president of project development, added 3,465 shares to his portfolio at a price of $28.871 per share. The prior day, board member, Alison Taylor Love acquired 1,000 shares.

Nevsun Resources Ltd. (NSU-T)

On Feb. 27, Joe Giuffre, the chief legal officer, accumulated 18,500 shares at a price of $3.51 per share.

Pason Systems Inc. (PSI-T)

Kevin Boston, the vice president of corporate development, purchased 500 shares on March 1 and 2,000 shares on Feb. 27. In addition, Russell Smith, the vice president of Pason's international business operations bought 500 shares on Feb.y 27.

Precision Drilling Corp. (PD-T)

On the final trading session in February, Carey Ford, the chief financial officer, purchased 10,000 shares, and Veronica Foley, the senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, accumulated 5,000 shares that same day.

Superior Plus Corp. (SPB-T)

Ed Bechberger, president of the specialty chemicals division, purchased 2,000 shares on Feb. 27 at a price of $12.35 per share.

Surge Energy Inc. (SGY-T)

Board member Rob Leach accumulated 50,000 shares at a price of $2.70 per share on Feb. 27. Board member Paul Colborne made a series of recent purchases, buying 20,000 shares in total between Feb. 24 and Feb. 28. In addition, Gerry de Leeuw, the vice president of geosciences, purchased 5,000 shares on the final trading day of February.

Tourmaline Oil Corp. (TOU-T)

Chairman, president and chief executive officerMike Rose, continued his buying spree, adding another 5,000 shares to his portfolio on Feb. 27 at a price of $29.2746 per share. He also accumulated 5,000 shares on Feb. 24 at a price of $29.584 per share.

TransCanada Corp. (TRP-T)

Insider Tracy Robinson accumulated 2,600 shares at a price of $60.50 per share on Feb. 27.

Western Forest Products Inc. (WEF-T)

On Feb. 24, Barrie Shineton, who sits on the board of directors, purchased 45,000 shares at a price of $2.14 per share.
