Ten companies with recent insider buying activity

Featured below are 10 companies that have experienced recent insider buying activity in the public market through their direct and indirect ownerships. Many purchases are relatively small with insiders making modest investments.

Keep in mind, when looking at transaction activities by insiders, purchasing activity may reflect perceived value in a security. I tend to put great weight on insider transaction activities when I see multiple insiders buying shares of a company.

Birchcliff Energy Ltd. (BIR-T)

Seymour Schulich, with an ownership position of over 10 per cent, purchased 2.5 million shares on March 23. The following week, on March 29, David Humphreys, vice-president of operations, added 2,000 shares to his portfolio at a price of $7.44 per share.

Black Diamond Group Ltd. (BDI-T)

Chairman, president, and chief executive officer Trevor Haynes accumulated 75,000 shares at a price of $3.75 per share on March 27.

Crombie Real Estate Investment Trust (CRR.UN-T)

Paul Sobey, who sits on the board of trustees and is the former president and chief executive officer of Empire Company, bought 10,000 units on March 27.

Detour Gold Corp. (DGC-T)

Chief financial officer James Mavor bought 10,000 shares at a price of $15.27 per share on March 30. The prior day, chief operating officer Pierre Beaudoin added 10,000 shares to his portfolio at a price of $15.50 per share.

Genesis Land Development Corp. (GDC-T)

Lloyd Miller, with an ownership position of over 10 per cent, purchased 150,000 shares on March 24.

Granite Real Estate Investment Trust (GRT.UN-T)

On March 24, Brydon Cruise, who sits on the board of trustees, purchased 10,000 units in two transactions: 8,000 units at a price of $45.871 per unit and 2,000 units at a price of $45.85 per unit.

Onex Corp. (ONEX-T)

On March 27, Bobby Le Blanc, senior managing director and member of the executive committee, bought 3,750 shares.

Plaza Retail REIT (PLZ.UN-T)

Chairman Earl Brewer purchased 50,000 units at a price of $4.84 per unit on March 29.

RMP Energy Inc. (RMP-T)

Chairman of the board of directors Josh Young has made several purchase trades in recent days, buying 576,500 shares on March 24, purchasing 70,000 shares at a price of 65 cents per share on March 27, and accumulating 100,000 shares at 68 cents per share on March 28.

Stingray Digital Group Inc. (RAY.A-T)

Board member Mark Pathy bought 70,000 shares at a price of $8.40 per share on March 24, in addition to his purchase of 50,000 shares at a price of $8.4985 per share on March 22.
