Cascades Inc. reported fourth-quarter profit of $5-million or $0.05 per share versus a loss of $12-million or $0.12 per share in the year earlier. Net loss per share excluding specific items was $0.04 compared to a net earnings per share of $0.17 a year earlier. It declared a quarterly dividend of $0.04 per share to be paid on March 23, 2012 to shareholders of record at the close of business on March 9, 2012. Cascades also announced the permanent closure of Cascades Enviropac, located in Toronto.
Ballard Power Systems Inc , which rose more than 4 per cent on Wednesday, announced its consolidated financial results for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, 2011, and provided an outlook for 2012. Ballard reported a net income loss of $7.3-million (U.S.) or 9 cents a share compared to $9-million or 11 cents a share the year prior. Net loss for the year was $33.4-million (U.S.) or 40 cents a share compared to $31.5-million or 37 cents a share. Total revenue in the quarter was flat at $21-million but up 17 per cent to $76-million for the year.
QLT Inc. said net loss for the three months ended Dec. 31, 2001, was $6.6-million (U.S.) or 13 cents per share compared to $19.2-million or 38 cents per share in the year earlier period. Net loss for 2011 was $30.4-million or 61 cents a share compared to $17.5-million or 33 cents a share.
