The CPP is no great bargain
Columnist Andrew Coyne shows that the Canada Pension Plan, the model for the new proposed Ontario Retirement Pension Plan, isn't as cost-efficient as some would suggest. Of course, the real benefit of the CPP is less low cost than it is the fact that it's deducted at source from paycheques and not a discretionary savings plan. If you want people to save, that's the best approach.

A lot of individuals and advisers say annuities are a no-go right now because of low interest rates, but there's more to the decision than that.
