Behavioural economist Dan Ariely says well trained monkeys could do the same job as financial advisers. I'm as critical as anyone of advisers, but I think Ariely's take underplays the full range of help advisers can provide to clients. Of course, advisers themselves need to take some blame for being criticized here. Too many of them mainly sell mutual funds.
