The U.S. meets virtually all of the requirements of a good tax haven for Canadians - why is it rarely mentioned?

Robert Keats, author of A Canadian's Best Tax Haven: The U.S., says many Canadians fear the long arm of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). In 2009 and 2011, IRS foreign holdings amnesty programs netted $3-billion from U.S. citizens, many of them dual-citizen Canadians. This brand of "fearful respect" has scared many people away.

However, Mr. Keats says, those who follow the rules can actually use them to their advantage. As a cross-border financial planner, he helps Canadians do businesses in, move to and invest in the U.S. He is the founder and president of KeatsConnelly, a cross-border wealth management firm.

Mr. Keats joined us live on Friday to answer your questions.
