Quebec-based engineering giant SNC-Lavalin announced Monday that it has won a contract in the United Arab Emirates worth an estimated $10-million.

The contract is for front-end engineering and pre-front-end engineering studies for an oil well project that involves nitrogen injection and carbon dioxide recovery.

The work on behalf of Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Ltd., a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, will cover three areas that involve the injection of greenhouse gasses into oil reservoirs in an attempt to improve production, SNC-Lavalin said in a news release.

"These studies are a key project for SNC-Lavalin, as they address greenhouse gas issues, as well as sustainability approaches in the UAE and in the oil and gas industry in general," said Jean Beaudoin, the company's executive vice-president.

SNC-Lavalin, one of the world' leading engineering and construction groups, has offices across Canada and in over 35 other countries around the world, and is currently working in some 100 countries.

The company's stock was up 44 cents at $49.41 in morning trading Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
